6 April 2008, Boston, MA – Church today was perfect. I awoke this
morning to an ambitiously set alarm and decided I wanted to sleep
uninterrupted this morning. I said a small prayer as I turned off my
alarm asking God to wake me up if I was supposed to go to church, and
I woke up just in time to get there as the reflection was underway.
In lieu of a sermon, the senior and the associate ministers reflected
on their pilgrimage to Jerusalem over the last couple weeks prompting
much consideration of my own journeys of more or less religious
intent. Just after they finished speaking we all sang 'This is my
song,' which is my favorite hymn for its plea for peace and its
acknowledgment of equality among peoples and nations. Each time I
hear this song ring out from a congregation I am unable to hold back
tears that well up from a deep hope for the reconciliation of
humankind to itself. And so I sang with tears coming down my cheeks
and my voice wavering from sobs searching for a breath from which to
escape and thanked God for waking me up this morning.

I really love this photo and post. Thank you for sharing.
So, I know I already commented on this, but I keep coming back to it and enjoying it and taking a little more from it with each view. And that is something worth mentioning. This post is one of those “third effect” pieces – the photo alone and the text alone don’t quite get you there, but the two of them together are quite moving and have the power to get to the reader. Kudos again, Dominick.
