And the sky turns to fire

16 April 2008, Boston, MA – I've wanted to make this picture for a
while to evoke the lyrics of the Patty Griffin song 'Useless Desires'
when she sings "How the sky turns to fire against a telephone wire /
And even I'm getting tired of useless desires." This is a remarkable
song that I try to share with others, and it seems to come up and
help me when I most need it. The song was given to me by Melissa
Range, whose influence on my life continues to be felt in substantial
ways.

Awesome! And you got the train tracks in there, too! I love her use of rusty trains and waiting-by-the-train-tracks in that song. I’m going to listen to it right now!

You’re very sweet, sugar pie. Wish I could get there for your graduation–I’m just going to miss it by a couple of weeks. Damn.
